Accountancy Recruit is partnering with a revolutionary utilities business that are sustainably accelerating the UK’s EV revolution, in the recruitment of a Senior Management Accountant based in Manchester. The purpose of the role is to lead the delivery of the monthly management accounts and financial reporting and analysis. The real value add for this role and what will set candidates apart is their analytical eye and ability to produce insightful analysis and this will come through having an inquisitive eye, understanding the key drivers of the business and not being afraid of challenging the norm.

This service is currently outsourced, so the Senior Management Accountant will be required to bring the management accounting process in house: to draft processes and controls documents and to create a standard operating manual.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage two Assistant Accountants responsible for the day-to-day transactions.
  • Prepare the monthly management accounts process for the group and its 8 subsidiaries to a deadline of 10 days.
  • Month-End Mastery: Assume complete responsibility for the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with best practices.
  • Journal Management: Accurately post and review monthly journal entries, ensuring they reflect the company’s financial activities precisely.
  • Balance Sheet Reconciliation: Conduct thorough reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, meticulously overseeing prepayments, accruals, fixed assets, and payroll to ensure financial integrity.
  • Revenue Reconciliation: Partner with the Finance Team to reconcile and account for various revenue streams, aligning them accurately within the financial period.
  • Management Reporting: Craft and deliver comprehensive monthly management accounts, providing critical financial insights to the Finance Management Team and essential stakeholders.
  • Analytical Support: Aid the Financial Leadership Team in conducting detailed month-end variance analyses, identifying, and explaining key financial deviations.
  • Tax Compliance: Manage and submit quarterly VAT returns, ensuring adherence to relevant laws and regulations, and play a key role in fulfilling other compliance obligations.
  • Audit Engagement: Act as the primary liaison with external auditors, preparing and organising requested documentation and information with precision and professionalism.
  • Tax and R&D Support: Coordinate the preparation of necessary data for corporate tax and R&D tax credit calculations, liaising with external advisors to ensure accuracy and compliance. Ad Hoc Responsibilities: Embrace additional tasks as they arise, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to the company’s financial health and operational excellence.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Qualified or Finalist in ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or similar qualification.
  • Adaptability and effectiveness in a rapidly evolving environment.
  • Initiative and the capability to operate independently.
  • Keen attention to detail with a questioning mindset towards existing procedures.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the knack for juggling and prioritising tasks.
  • Demonstrating strong communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable interacting with various organisational levels.
  • Proficiency in Excel.

Remuneration

  • Salary £55 – 58,000 pa.
