Accountancy Recruit is partnering with a business that provides specialist services to the construction industry across the UK, in the recruitment of an Accounts Assistant based in Little Warley, Essex.

You will become part of a collaborative, supportive accounts team within this successful, growing business and report to the Group Financial Controller. You will be involved in day-to-day transactions and associated tasks. The role offers study support to complete AAT or begin study.  

Daily Tasks will typically include the following –

  • Maintain the purchase ledger using Exchequer.
  • Process invoices, and generate payment runs in a timely manner.
  • Ensure prompt clearance of invoice queries with suppliers:
  • Establish good working relationships with key suppliers to ensure timely resolution of any queries.
  • Preparing payment runs.
  • Processing staff expense claims
  • Sales ledger – raising invoices, sending invoices and remittance statements
  • Credit Control – chasing of outstanding debt.  
  • Assisting in the preparation of payroll data / processing timesheets for submission to an external bureau: dealing with payroll queries
  • Supporting the team in month end closure.
  • CIS payments and returns

Requirements & Skills

  • Experience of working in a Purchase Ledger environment
  • A recognised accounting qualification (AAT or similar) part or fully completed would be advantageous.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail are essential.
  • Numeracy skills and good IT (particularly Microsoft applications) and database management skills.
  • Organisation and discipline, curiosity and an analytic mind.
  • Confidence, patience and capable of remaining calm under pressure is also important as is working to deadlines.
  • Interpersonal skills to build relationships internally with your colleagues and external suppliers.
  • A friendly can-do attitude and good communication skills.
  • Good time management skills.

Remuneration & Benefits

  • Salary £30-35,000 pa
  • Hours: 8.00 am to 4.00 pm – Monday to Friday
