Accountancy Recruit have another Finance Manager Vacancy for a Maidstone based client which is being handled by our South East team

An exciting and crucial opportunity has arisen for a permanent, full-time Finance Manager within a well established, Not for Profit Financial Services Institution based in Maidstone. They require a hands-on, self-starter who uses their initiative and believes in ‘the art of the possible!’ to provide finance, accounting and commercial support. Reporting to the CEO, and with 2 direct reports, this is a fantastic opportunity for a candidate who wants to make a real difference to people in their local community during a period of exciting and ambitious growth.

Key duties will encompass:

Strategic Activity

  • Develop, implement and review the financial aspects of the Business Plan. To work in conjunction with the CEO to provide input and advice to our Finance Committee and Board of Directors in the preparation of the annual operating and financial budgets and forecasts for the organisation.
  • Create and deliver monthly finance reports to the CEO for the Board of Directors and Committees.
  • Support growth and development of the organisation
  • Ensure that all statutory and Board reports are accurately and promptly completed and to raise any concerns regarding future risks to the business.
  • With the CEO, assist with the management of the organisation and upgrade existing operations/systems where necessary.

Operational Management

  • Manage and co-ordinate all operational activities of the organisation including finance, administration, technical, and IT, with the support of a small staff team. Currently this is a ‘young’ organisation with a small staff team and so the post holder will work “hands on” on many areas of the operation including but not limited to purchases and contracts, payment authorisation, investments, accounting and credit control.
  • Maintain, administer and review all financial operating policies and procedures to enhance the efficient financial operation of the credit union’s activities and coordinate systems across locations if required.
  • Manage the organisations products and services including savings accounts and loans; manage customer records including financial transactions, ensuring at all times the professional and proper application of financial controls.
  • Ensure operations are efficient for members, staff, integrating digital solutions by default as appropriate. Providing a continual member feedback and satisfaction process to focus service improvement.
  • With the CEO, effectively manage and ensure the security of the assets including premises and all its contents.
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of all systems and procedures.

People Management

  • Provide day to day management for staff and volunteers to ensure services are delivered in an effective and customer-focussed manner in line with a modern forward-looking organisation.
  • With the CEO, conduct regular staff appraisal meetings to discuss performance and development needs and, where necessary, extending this to volunteers.
  • Select and maintain qualified staff in all positions, whether paid or volunteers.
  • To advise, assist and develop staff and volunteers in the fulfilment of their respective functions
  • Develop financial KPIs from the Business Plan linking to staff and staff performance.
  • Ensure documented financial operating procedures are comprehensive, up to date and made aware to all staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure the organisation meets regulatory, financial and legal compliance in all areas, including preparing and submitting required reports.
  • Work with the CEO towards ensuring business plan targets are achieved.
  • Engage staff and volunteers with development of projects, providing appropriate support and training as required.

External Engagement

  • At all times to behave and promote the organisation and to act on its behalf in its dealings with members, partner organisations and the general public.
  • Promote product and services in such a way that the organisation is seen as an effective and efficient organisation.
  • Any other duties that may from time to time arise in line with the purpose of the post

About you:

  • Ideally AAT Qualified or Qualified by Experience as a minimum.
  • Experience of the Financial Services Industry and the role of its regulators.
  • Excellent numeracy, robust accounting knowledge and a sound knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of programmes. Excellent working knowledge of digital accounting systems.
  • Experience of managing budgets and applying accounting rules. Preparation of Financial Accounts to extended TB
  • Experience of developing and managing functions, individuals and teams.
  • Demonstrate management and organisational skills, including equality and diversity, impartiality and openness to new ideas and information.
  • Knowledge of and success in financial management, budgeting, credit control, debt management and month end and year end processes.
  • You will be required to pass a DBS Disclosure Check.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated with a sound understanding of financial services operating within a highly regulated environment and possess excellent financial/accounting as well as management and inter-personal skills. Applicants will have experience and/or qualifications in either the financial services industry, or accounting.  Applicants must have experience in a management role and a proven track record of delivering excellent member services.  Experience of financial services or regulated industries would be desirable.
